Jurisdiction and Choice of Law for Electronic
Contracts: an English Perspective
The following article deals with jurisdiction and choice of
law in relation to electronic contracts. The problems arising
under these two issues are discussed from the viewpoint of
an English consumer. The section on jurisdiction first discusses
electronic contracting within the European Union and the EFTA-countries,
and explains the Brussels and the Lugano Conventions. Second,
the proposed amendments to the Brussels Convention are covered.
In addition, electronic contracting with a person not domiciled
in theEuropeanUnion or an EFTA-country is covered. The discussion
of the choice of law question is structured similarly.
